Serpentine Sunlight

Street photo in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Photo by Jim Newberry.

Chiang Mai, February 20th, 2014. I found a passageway between buildings with a shaft of sunlight beaming through an otherwise dark space. Pedestrians would quickly pass into and out of it. Once I got the exposure locked down for the bright sun rather than the dark passageway, I shot many, many pictures. I wasn’t able to get anything I really loved, but there were a few shots that piqued my interest, including this one.

camera phone pictures

I shot these with my camera phone last Sunday–a gorgeous spring day– in Humboldt Park while waiting for my turn at the plate during a Wiffleball game. I reduced the size but otherwise they are untouched–no color, brightness or other adjustments. I like the exaggerated, unnatural colors. This reminds me a bit of shooting with a toy camera. I guess it is a toy camera, come to think of it.
